Just Breathe
If we’re at all tense our breathing becomes short and shallow, without us even noticing. Taking a few moments each day to focus on your breathing and taking long, deep breaths, is THE most powerful tool there is for helping your body and mind relax. Try sitting comfortably and breathing in through your nose for 4 seconds, hold it for 7 seconds and then out through your mouth for 8 seconds.
Learn To Say No
If you’re a people pleaser like me and say ‘yes’ to everything and then get stressed and overwhelmed, well you need to learn how to say NO! Of course I’m not saying you can’t do things for other people, but you can’t pour from an empty cup, so just pause before agreeing to do something and decide if it is really in the best interest of your health.
Go With The Flow
Who could have imagined a few days ago that the country would come to a standstill today with the arrival of Storm Ophelia?! A reminder from Mother Nature that there are so many things in life outside of our control and when we are faced with them, all we can do is accept it and go with the flow!
Spread Love
This past weekend I had the honour of watching my sister and her girlfriend get married, something they fought so hard for the right to do. At the time of the same-sex marriage referendum my mental health was at its worst, but I got such a boost from attending the various events and rallies and being surrounded by people who just wanted to celebrate love. Hate is such a toxic emotion, so incredibly corrosive to your physical and mental health. So choose to spread love instead!
Get Some Fresh Air
Did anyone else spend the Bank Holiday weekend like me, binge-watching Stranger Things!? I was in serious need of some fresh air this morning so we headed off to my favourite place. Fresh air is like a bolt of electricity, jolting your body and mind out of its current state. So go get some fresh air today and bring your body and mind back to life! (PS I LOVE Autumn)
