May’s ‘Mind Yourself’ Tips

By Lisa Dunbar | Blog | 0 comment | 31 May, 2020 | 2

Lose The Artificial Sweeteners
I was first turned off artificial sweeteners before I ever studied nutrition. When I first started taking steps to improve my anxiety and overall mental health, I attended a talk by two local clinical psychologists who strongly advised against eating artificial sweeteners, particularly Aspartame (found in many diet soft drinks, cordials, flavoured yoghurts…). I’m not a mental health expert, but I certainly took their word for it! And click here to hear me talk about more reasons to get rid of artificial sweeteners from your diet!

Read A Book
For many people, reading a book is something we only do when we’re on holiday! This is because reading and getting lost in a book helps you to de-stress and relax. But don’t just save reading for holidays, try to develop a regular reading routine and bring some of that relaxation into your everyday life! (I couldn’t really recommend what I was reading back when this photo was taken – it’s a real life HORROR called What To Expect When You’re Expecting!)

Watch An Old Movie
In the same way that looking at old photos can really boost your mood, revisiting a movie from your childhood can bring you back to a simpler happier time, when we did things for pure enjoyment! Above are some of my childhood favourites that I’ve recently revisited…recognise any?
